Tom Patton is openly anti-choice and supports government oversight of private healthcare decisions. He voted in favor of extreme legislation that would prevent any form of reproductive healthcare and criminalize abortion without exception for rape or incest.
He voted to support private school voucher expansions which have cost Ohio taxpayers $966.2 million this year. A majority of the families using these vouchers are those who already have kids enrolled in private schools. These vouchers are cutting into the budgets of our public schools and driving up property taxes to offset the costs.
Patton has also supported Senator J.D. Vance who holds extreme positions, especially regarding US support for Ukraine. At the Republican National Convention, Vance said, “I don’t really care what happens to Ukraine one way or another.” He’s since doubled down and has suggested that Ukraine doesn’t deserve anymore “free rides.”
Tom has been using his campaign as a slush fund for personal expenses, which is very illegal because all the money he uses is tax free. Since 2002, he has spent over $800,000 on personal expenses including:
- $13,741 for sporting events
- $23,000 on food
- $11,500 on car repairs
- $1,500 to stay at the Greenbrier resort
- $75 on women’s clothes
- $34,600 paid to family and friends
He’s also been double dipping on mileage reimbursement. From 2015 through 2016, Patton reimbursed himself $6,000 from his campaign account and $7,700 from the Ohio House using taxpayer money!
Patton has also surrounded himself with shady business partners. He has been accused of accepting a bribe of $10,000 from his cousin and former Parma School Board member, J. Kevin Kelly. Just this year, he’s received more than $25,000 from Bobby George, infamous Cleveland restaurateur who has been charged with rape, kidnapping and attempted murder.
Patton is pushing for the creation of an interchange on the I-71 highway, a project that threatens to displace dozens of homes. Many of these properties belong to retirees, young families, and individuals on fixed incomes. “I’ve been here 42 years,” says Sue Mazzola, who faces losing her home. “This is more than monetary value; it’s my memories of raising my children.” Despite the personal impact, Patton remains committed to this project, indifferent to its human cost.
